Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving break. As we get ourselves back into the groove this week, we will be kicking off several new units. ELA: This month, students will read, analyze and respond to short stories that center around the themes of culture and identity. Selections include Names/Nombres, The Scholarship Jacket, and The Stolen Party. Reading: Students will spend the month of December reading and analyzing a new genre: Drama. The play we will highlight is A Christmas Carol. Students have the opportunity to see a performance of the play at the high school on December 6th. Students will continue their independent reading by completing a FREE CHOICE reading book. Students have been introduced to the PICK strategy for selecting "just right" books. HOMEWORK: Students should complete their book selection task and bring their free choice book to class for FRIDAY. Social Studies: We dive into our study of Ancient Egypt this week, with a focus on the Geography of the Nile River. HOMEWORK: There will be a section quiz on FRIDAY.
