This Congratulations to all of our Nettle students who were recognized today for achieving honor roll and high honors for the first term of the school year. You should all be very proud of your hard work, and we look forward to seeing what you will be able to accomplish during Term 2,
We have a busy week in the classroom for both ELA and social studies. In writing class, students are working toward the endings of their historical fiction short stories. On Wednesday students will begin typing their drafts to prepare for peer conferencing and final revisions. I have asked that all students dedicate 15 minute of focused writing time each evening at home. Parents, be sure to ask your student about their short stories and what interesting facts about Egypt they have been able to incorporate. In reading, we are continuing to read A Christmas Carol, and are now into Act II of the play, Students have been enjoying taking on character roles and reading aloud to the class. Our goal is to wrap up this reading assignment before heading off on winter break. Students have also been dedicating time during class each day to reading their free choice reading books. These books are due to be complete by January 23rd. In social studies, we are wrapping up our final section in our Ancient Egypt unit. This week's focus is on Nubia, and the relationship that was built between the two societies, This Friday, student will have their Chapter test, which will cover all of the material we have learned throughout the unit, Prior to the test, students will work together to review each section, become experts on one aspect of ancients Egypt, and lead their peers on a review of the material, As winter break approaches, I that students and teacher alike are looking forward to some much deserved time away from the classroom, Please encourage your students to stay focused and put their best effort into all of their assignments before the break, I am very proud of everyone's hard work during Term 1, and am excited for some new learning adventured ahead during our 2nd term!

Today all 7th grade students had a unique opportunity to visit the high school to see a dress rehearsal performance of "A Christmas Carol." The performance was great, and even included some of our students from Nettle! Being able to watch a life performance of the story will help our students as they continue to read and study the play here in class.
Today we will begin reading Scene III, and I look forward to hearing the student's thoughts and connections to the performance. |
