On this page you will find updates, announcements, and additional resources from Mrs. D'Amico's 7th grade classroom.
Welcome back and Happy New year to everyone! I hope that everyone had a safe and enjoyable winter break.
As we kick off January, we are heading into new units within each of our classes. Here is a look at what we will be working on this month: ELA and Reading: Students will dive into poetry this month! We will begin the unit with a review of key characteristics of poetry, poetry reading and response strategies, and poetry practice. After reviewing and setting a solid foundation for the students, we will expand our focus to analyze, compare and contrast poems with other forms of writing, such as infomation texts and narrative short stories. By the end of the unit, students will not only be able to read, breakdown, and analyze poems, but also be prepared to connect and respond to poetry in relation to other forms of writing. Student will continue with small reading groups throuhout the month. REMINDER: This week's Article of the Week will be due Monday Jan 9th, due to the short week. Social Studies: As we head into the new year, students will wrap up their study of Ancient Egypt and Nubia. The unit test will take place next week on January 9th and 10th, according to student class schedules. Students will complete a unit study guide during class to help them prepare, but should be studying on their own as well. Use past quizzes, note packets, and the study guide to help with review. After completing Ancient Egypt, student head off to our next exciting adventure: Ancient Greece! More details to come.
