Happy Monday, everyone!
This week is going to be a busy but exciting week in our classroom, as we wrap up our current units in ELA, Reading, and Social Studies. Here is a look at what we are working on: ELA: This week we will be finalizing our personal narratives through peer edits and final revisions. Students will write their polished drafts that incorporate all of the unique revisions that we have worked on throughout the writing process. Our PUBLISHING PARTY will take place in writing class on THURSDAY! Please feel free to bring in a treat to share with the class. The students have worked so hard on this assignment, and I cannot wait for them to share their final products! TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK: 1. Review the Round Robin Sheet from our Peer Feedback Activity. 2. Prepare a To Do list of your final revisions. READING: This week, students are wrapping up the first round of their group reading novels, while practicing specific close reading strategies to help them interact with their readings in a meaningful way. Their close reading work will carry on throughout the year with our new weekly reading assignments: The Article of the Week. With this assignment, students will read, respond, and write about a unique, current event topic each week. Their goal is to regularly practice engaging with a text beyond a simple summary. More details will be provided next week! Social Studies: This week students will complete the second unit of the year: The Beginning of Civilizations. Thus week, we will specifically focus on the advantages of a settled life. We will also the Bronze Age. Due to the half day on Friday, and the long weekend. The Chapter 1 Test will be held in class on TUESDAY October 11th. Students should review their unit activities, note packets, and prior quizzes to review. Remember, students can access the textbook online. Please see the Online Text section of my website for details. TONIGHT'S HOMEWORK: 1. Complete your Bronze Age Art sample. 2. Write your Artist Statement.
